How It Works

As skincare experts, we grew tired of seeing so many women frustrated with complicated routines using expensive products that do next to nothing. The Beauty Industry profits by selling consumers as many products as possible. The problem is, when you take a good look at the industry, most of these products are unnecessary and have few, if any, meaningful ingredients.

By now, like us, you must be tired of hearing the hype about how some new ‘magic berry’ is the answer to flawless skin. Like us, you must have reached the conclusion that beautiful skin should be done better, more simply, and for less. As facial plastic surgeons who see women every day looking to reclaim their beauty, we created JolieMD Metamorphosis after years of research to help you do just that.

What is JolieMD Metamorphosis?

Acne FAQs’

Jolie MD Metamorphosis was designed to correct uneven pigmentation, which often occurs due as an inflammatory response to acne. When we were developing JolieMD Metamorphosis, we knew that adequate acne management would be important to the success of our product. Although acne is associated with the teen years, many people continue to suffer from acne well into their adult years. Without addressing the cause of acne, our product could not fully resolve uneven pigmentation or provide beautiful, healthy skin. As such, we have included effective ingredients to address the underlying cause of acne and prevent future breakouts.

Why does acne occur?

Acne occurs when the skin pores get clogged with debris (for example, excess sebum and dead skin cells) and become infected. The infection results in swelling and the formation of a type of pimple (e.g. whitehead, blackhead, pustule, or cyst). Doctors are not entirely sure what causes acne, but it is believed to be triggered by elevated androgen levels, which may be influenced by hormonal and genetic factors. In addition, an imbalance between good and bad bacteria may also cause acne flare-ups.

How does Metamorphosis work to prevent acne?

Quite simply, our product works by targeting every step in the acne pathway.

Prevents follicles from becoming blocked. Metamorphosis is very unique in that it combines slow release alpha, beta and polyhydroxy acids in the Softening Serum. We created this formulation specifically so that it could be left on the face overnight to increase the results. To further enhance its effectiveness, we added retinol to the Enlightening Lotion. The result is a very gentle, yet effective turnover of old skin that prevents plugged follicles.

Reduces oil production. The main ingredients shown to work topically to reduce oil production are alpha acids, salicylic acid, and retinols. You should know that our Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion have all of these ingredients in the most effective concentrations available for daily use. In addition, our products contain flavosterone, which has also been shown to reduce sebum production. And again, unlike most other products, Metamorphosis was designed to be left on after application, without the need to wash it off or neutralize it. The products are safe, easy to use, and most importantly, can stay on the skin long enough to be effective.

Effective antibacterial agents. Unlike most products that rely only on benzoyl peroxide, which can irritate your skin and stain your clothes and bed sheets, our product’s antibacterial activity is the result of its unique combination of hexylresorcinol, niacinamide, and salicylic acid. The result is a one of a kind formulation that works where other systems fail.

Reduces inflammation. Last but not least, one of the most exceptional elements of the Metamorphosis process is the potent blend of anti-inflammatories and barrier protectants that are ultimately so important in repairing the skin barrier and preventing acne. Amongst these are scientifically proven concentrations of niacinamide, feverfew, bisabolol, and willowherb.

Who suffers from acne?

Acne is incredibly common during the teenage years — about 95% of all teens suffer from acne to some extent. Acne typically diminishes in severity by the age of 25, but many people continue to suffer from some amount of acne throughout adulthood. Men seem to suffer from acne more than women during adolescence, but women tend to have more breakouts in adulthood. Recent studies have revealed that nearly 75% of adults in their 20s and 30s suffer from some degree of acne. Acne can occur on people of all skin types and colors.

Why does discoloration occur after acne breakouts?

As acne clears up, you may notice dark pink or brown spots on your skin where the pimples were. The medical term for this discoloration is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH can occur when a wound, rash, or pimple triggers an overproduction of melanin (the substance that gives our skin its color). Excess melanin results in a darkening or discoloration of the wounded area, which remains for some time after the pimple has healed. Metamorphosis contains products that effectively treat most forms of skin hyperpigmentation, including PIH.

Skin Aging & Wrinkles FAQs

For years, we told our patients that there was no cream that would magically correct all of the signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, age spots, and dry, coarse skin. While many skin care products claim to prevent skin aging and improve fine lines and wrinkles, few of them are able to actually live up to their claims. So, we challenged ourselves to create an anti-aging product that would be truly effective. After two years of intensive study and research, we created JolieMD, a revolutionary skincare product that improves skin health and treats signs of aging.

How does Metamorphosis improve signs of aging?

Metamorphosis treats many signs of aging so that you can enjoy skin that appears healthy and rejuvenated. It is able to improve skin tone and texture, reduce areas of pigmentation, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How does Metamorphosis work as an anti-aging treatment?

During our research phase, we investigated a number of products that were known to have anti-aging properties. We selected the safest and most effective of these products to formulate JolieMD and treat the following signs of aging:

  • Wrinkles and loss of elasticity — our innovative formulation boasts specialized hydroxy acid complexes that bind glycolic and lactic acid with an amino group. This unique acid formulation delivers a measured dose over time rather than a “burst” of acid that could sting and irritate the skin. This means that you get all the benefits you want — a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, collagen stimulation, and improved firmness and elasticity — without the irritation associated with other acid products.
  • Age Spots and Discoloration — our formulation contains the best known skin brightening ingredients, including hydroquinone, niacinamide, hexylresorcinol, alpha/beta and poly hydroxy acids, gluconolactone, and retinyl acetate among others. Our combination of these ingredients helps women with mottled skin and age spots look younger and more radiant.
  • Coarseness and roughness — JolieMD’s combination of Softening Serum and Enlightening Lotion were formulated to deliver the maximum effectiveness. They also contain ceramides, essential fatty acids, and plant based sterols to effectively fortify your skin and provide a healthful and youthful vibrancy, while helping you achieve the softest, smoothest skin you’ve ever known.
  • Inflammation and redness — Metamorphosis contains a specialized anti-irritant complex that includes green tea, willowherb, bisabolol, and a highly functional, nature identical, oat-based ingredient to further reduce the potential for irritation and sensitization.

Can Metamorphosis improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles?

Not only can Metamorphosis help prevent wrinkles from forming, but it can help improve the appearance of wrinkles once they have formed. Metamorphosis contains ingredients that actively combat wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin production to restore skin to a more youthful state. The wrinkle combating ingredients in Metamorphosis include:

  • Alpha-, Beta-, and Poly-Hydroxy Acids- accelerate skin cell turnover and increase collagen production
  • Matrixyl synthe’6 (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38)- stimulates cellular matrix production of collagen and improves firmness and elasticity
  • Niacinamide — stimulates new collagen formation
  • Retinyl Acetate — a Vitamin A derivative that is known to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin
  • A number of antioxidants that promote overall skin health

Thanks to its unique formulation, which includes agents that promote better absorption of the beneficial compounds, 93% of people using Metamorphosis saw an improvement in their wrinkles during the 6-week clinical trial.

What causes skin aging?

As we grow older, our skin will gradually lose its youthful appearance and start to show signs of aging. Intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging are terms that are used when discussing the skin’s aging process. The effects of intrinsic aging are caused by internal factors, while the effects of extrinsic aging are caused by external factors. Everyone will experience the effects of aging on their skin as they grow older, but how and when they manifest will depend on internal and external factors. Genetic factors, hormones, and metabolic reactions are responsible for intrinsic aging. Extrinsic aging is a result of external forces, such as ultra-violet radiation from sun exposure, lifestyle choices (e.g. alcohol or nicotine consumption), and air pollution.

What changes does the skin undergo as it ages?

As we grow older, we can expect our skin to undergo a number of normal and natural changes. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors will contribute to the age at which these changes begin and the extent of aging experienced. As our skin ages:

  • The effects of gravity and repetitive facial motions result in the formation of fine lines and wrinkles across the face.
  • Skin becomes looser as elastin and collagen production decrease. This also contributes to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • It becomes more transparent and delicate as the surface layer of the skin becomes thinner. As a result, broken capillaries and dark areas below the eyes become more apparent.
  • It becomes dryer and skin texture become rougher. This can cause the skin to lose its youthful glow.
  • Sun spots, age spots, and liver spots begin to appear, resulting in an uneven skin tone.
  • Acne scars and other skin imperfections may darken.

What factors accelerate skin aging?

While we cannot control genetic factors that contribute to aging skin, doctors have observed that certain external factors will cause the skin to age more quickly. These include excessive sun exposure and/or inadequate use of sun protection, stress levels, smoking cigarettes, excessive alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, obesity, and environmental pollutants. Oxidation damage from sun exposure is considered to be the primary cause of extrinsic skin aging. It contributes to the loss of collagen and elastin, the appearance of dark spots on the skin, and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

How can I prevent skin aging and the formation of wrinkles?

You can slow down skin deterioration that occurs with age by supporting your body’s intrinsic defense systems. We created JolieMD Metamorphosis to slow the effects of aging on the skin and reverse signs of aging that have already occurred. The active ingredients in our product have been specifically chosen due to their proven anti-aging properties. In addition, we encourage our clients to incorporate a moisturizer that includes SPF protection into their daily skin routine to prevent any further UV damage, which accelerates wrinkles formation. Lifestyle modifications, such as cessation of smoking or moderation of alcohol consumption, may also slow down the aging process.

What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles are small lines, folds, or creases that appear on the skin and become more noticeable as we age. They typically first appear as fine lines, which may become deeper and more visible as time goes on. Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process — all people will experience wrinkles on their skin eventually.

Where do wrinkles most commonly occur?

Wrinkles most commonly form on sun-exposed parts of the body such as the face, neck, chest, and hands. They also tend to develop in areas of the face that are subject to repetitive facial motions (for example, “smile lines” around the mouth and “frown lines” between the eyebrows).

Why do wrinkles occur?

The formation of wrinkles is influenced by a variety of factors. They appear as a part of the natural aging process, as collagen and elastin production slows within the skin. These substances are responsible for the skin’s firmness and elasticity. As they decrease, the skin is more likely to wrinkle. Wrinkles also occur due to the loss of skin volume that occurs with age. Your sleeping position and habitual facial motions also contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Sun damage and smoking cigarettes are known to accelerate the formation of wrinkles. People who spend a lot of time in the sun typically appear more wrinkled. Genetics may also contribute to the formation of wrinkles

Hyperpigmentation FAQs

Uneven skin tone is one of the most common complaints heard by skin doctors today. The presence of dark spots (known as hyperpigmentation) on the skin can make a person look older than they really are, as hyperpigmentation is associated with the aging process.

Unfortunately, most of the skincare products on the market today focus on moisturizing or plumping up the skin, without paying attention to abnormal or excessive areas of pigmentation. By creating Metamorphosis, we hope to free women from the cycle of continuously covering up pigmentation by minimizing dark spots and restoring a more even skin tone.

Why do areas of pigmentation appear on the skin?

Dark spots that appear on the skin are usually caused by sun damage and inflammation related to acne. Nearly all forms of hyperpigmentation are a result of excess melanin production, the protein that gives color to our skin. The body responds to sun exposure by increasing its production of melanin to protect the skin from further damage. These dark spots are commonly referred to as sun spots or age spots and can take years to form. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs when a pimple or other skin injury triggers an overproduction of melanin. Hyperpigmentation is also associated with hormonal changes. Melasma, also known as the “mask of pregnancy,” is the appearance of dark spots across the cheeks and nose during pregnancy.

Will areas of pigmentation fade on their own?

Spots that occur as a result of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation will eventually fade, but it typically takes between three months and two years for the spots to become undetectable. Sun spots and age spots will not resolve on their own, but there are many treatments available to fade them from sight, including Metamorphosis.

How does Metamorphosis treat excess or abnormal skin pigmentation?

Metamorphosis is not a skin bleaching system, which is an unsafe treatment for pigmentation and rarely recommended by dermatologists. Our product is not designed to change your skin’s natural color, but rather to remove layers damage and uneven pigmentation so that the skin is restored to its previous youthful state.

In addition to minimizing existing pigmentation, our product addresses the root cause of hyperpigmentation — the inflammation that leads to excessive pigment production. Metamorphosis works in three ways to treat excess pigmentation:

  1. Shedding of old, superficial skin to reduce existing hyperpigmentation.
  2. Decreasing new pigmentation production and its distribution.
  3. Reducing the triggers of new pigment production, including inflammation and free radical damage.

What skin types are prone to hyperpigmentation?

All skin types are prone to the formation of dark spots as a result of sun exposure and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. People with darker skin tend to have darker areas of pigmentation than people with lighter skin, but pigmentation spots tend to be more obvious on fair-skinned people due to the contrast in colors.

How can I prevent sun spots from appearing?

The use of a daily SPF moisturizer and avoidance of the sun during its strongest hours can help prevent sun spots from forming; however, sunscreen will not prevent sun spots that have already begun forming from appearing. When undergoing any type of treatment to lighten areas of pigmentation, it is important to continue to use sunscreen so that the future pigmentation problems can be prevented.
